Let me tell you a little secret of mine. The whole summer I’ve been enjoying my home spa hair treatment by conditioning my hair with an ancient hair oil. I’m nearly half way through the bottle, so I thought it’s time to make a review and show it to the world…

Roots & Rituals

Inspired by the trusted custom of Indian head massage, Roots and Rituals draws over 400 years of hair care traditions to bring an unforgettable, spa-like experience in the comfort of our own home. Promote optimal hair growth by immersing your hair in a unique blend of highly nutritious ingredients combined with gentle heat to assist with penetration of the ingredients into the hair shaft and scalp.

Roots and Rituals is the brainchild of a Medical Biochemist. Frustrated with the volume of chemical-laden hair care, and the lack of natural, oil based hair solutions on the market, she decided to create her own range of naturally luxurious hair care, which promotes a sense of well-being, whilst deeply nourishing all types of hair.

How to use

If you have heard of the inversion method which became so popular on Youtube vlogs and blogs lately, this is the perfect oil to use. Create a new ritual to rejuvenate your hair by massaging 15 ml of preheated Nourishing Hair Oil deep into the scalp and through the length of your hair. Allow the oils to deeply penetrate the hair and scalp for 20 minutes, whilst you relax with some much needed me-time. Wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo.

What I did

I’ve been using the oil once a week or once every two weeks since the summer. Anytime I remember and have the time – usually on the weekend – I would treat myself to a hair massage with the Roots & Ritual hair oil. I would just fill the sink with hot water, put the bottle in for a couple of minutes to preheat the oil and then massage it onto my hair. After 20-30 minutes I go in the shower and wash it off with my normal shampoo.

The results

Although I wash the oil with shampoo, it always leaves my hair a little more oily than normal. Nevertheless, it gives lots of body and volume. I found it strange that my hair can appear both a bit greasy and have volume at the same time. The simplest thing I do is to wash it again on the next day.

I’ve noticed that the oil carries its scent onto my hair until the second wash and definitely makes it shiny and well conditioned, easy to comb and less frizzy.

My overall opinion

The oil is great and works amazing. I love the idea of using so many essential oils at the same time and knowing that the method of hair massaging with essential oils has been done since ancient times.

The scent is a bit strong. I asked Roots & Rituals and they replied that they’ve reduced the amla oil by 25% in order to keep the scent intensity lower, whilst still maintaining the nourishing effects. I find it really good that they listen to their customers and make these kind of adjustments to improve the product!

I think the Deep Conditioning Oil from Roots & Rituals is a great addition of every girl’s bathroom cabinet. Even if you don’t use it regularly, once in a week or two is a good way to hydrate and nourish the hair.
