Hello my lovelies!

Even though I made the switch and went green over a year ago, I am still on the hunt for the perfect all natural hair care products. So, when I was contacted by a brand called Roots & Rituals, I jumped at the chance to try some items from their line!

Roots & Rituals is made in England by a woman named Karishma who was tired of using products loaded with toxic ingredients like parabens, artificial fragrances and SLS. Instead, she focuses on using natural, ultra-moisturizing ingredients such as coconut, olive and avocado oils. I also absolutely love her branding and all the images on her website! Everything is so colourful and pretty. 🙂 I was super excited to try some of her products and, of course, to share what I think in a review for all of you!

Intense Nourishing Conditioner for Dry, Damage Hair

Ingredients: The main ingredients in the Roots & Rituals conditioner are a number of different oils: everything from rosemary, basil, coconut, argan, and ylang-ylang. The label does reference two preservatives that I am not a big fan of (Methylchloroisothiazolinone and Methylisothiazolinone), but Karishma told me she has recently reformulated the conditioner to replace them with a safer option – potassium sorbate. It is so good to see a company that actually responds to concerns brought forward my customers and makes changes to improve their product. So awesome!

My Review: The conditioner worked well – it made my hair soft without adding any extra weight. Because of all the essential oils inside (patchouli, ylang-ylang, and the other herbs), it has quiet a strong, pleasant herbal smell. So, if you are sensitive to fragrance this may not be the product for you! Overall, this is definitely a product that I enjoyed using!

With the Hair Oil Treatment in my hair! So oily! :p

Deep Conditioning Hair Oil

The hair oil is a pre-conditioning treatment that is used for 30-45 minutes before your regular shower routine. Karishma explained that it works best when used in combination with a warm towel, which helps to intensify the treatment. Roots & Rituals actually sells a Heated Hair Towel as well for the ultimate spa experience! They are actually just about to release a new upgraded version of the towel and Karishma said that she would be sending me one to try after its release! Once it arrives and I have a chance to try it out, I will make sure to check back in with you all. In the meantime, I wrapped a regular towel around my head and used my hair dryer to make it as warm as I could.

Ingredients: Once again, this product is filled with a wonderful combination of oils: almond, sesame, sweet orange, rosemary, ylang ylang, and hisbiscus, just to name a few! There are no other preservatives or additives – just 100% pure, all natural oils! Amazing!

My Review:  This was my first time trying a hair oil treatment that wasn’t a DIY version.

hot oil treatment

After rinsing out the treatment & blow drying!

It worked incredibly well – my hair was soft, shiny, and light. The hair oil washed out easily and did not weigh my hair down.  It does not have as strong of a smell as the conditioner, so it should be better for those with fragrance sensitivities. It is just a light, sweet herbal scent. I am very happy with this treatment and will definitely be using as well as repurchasing it in the future! The price is a little on the higher end for us Canadians (£16 in store, £18 for secure shipping online, which is about $32-4 Canadian) but a little goes a long way and I am sure this product will last a long time.

Karishma is a wonderful woman to work with and it is obvious she has put her heart and soul into this brand and her products. She takes the time to carefully respond to questions and provide any information that you may need.

Overall, this was a great first impression and I cannot wait to try more products from Roots  & Rituals ! I would love to know if you have tried anything from this brand – especially if you are actually in England! 🙂

What are your favourite green and natural hair care products?

See you all next week!
-Courtney xoxo
